Ronald Mendelow was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. He matriculated at Sandringham High School in 1972, in which year he was head prefect. After rendering compulsory military service, Ronald entered the legal profession as a full time candidate attorney in a prominent Johannesburg law firm, at the same time attaining his legal degree by correspondence through University of South Africa.
Ronald was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 1980. Since then he has continuously practised as a partner in law firms in Johannesburg, specialising in commercial agreements, commercial litigation and mining. In 1993 Ronald established his current law firm Mendelow-Jacobs, of which he is the senior partner. He served the late Harold Pupkewitz for about 14 years as his personal attorney and also acted for the Pupkewitz Group of Companies. He has been a Non-Executive Director of Pupkewitz Holdings (Pty) Ltd since 2001.
Ronald is married with 3 children, all still at school, and together they enjoy horse-riding, chess and English literature.
